Another case of an Indian celebrity possessing drugs is making headlines. This time it is famous Indian disc jockey Aqeel, the Managing Director of a leading event management company, who was held at Dubai Airport on the charge of possessing drugs.
Earlier, Harinder Singh, Managing Director of Percept Holdings, was apprehended along with two others on Tuesday for allegedly carrying ‘ecstasy’ drugs. Singh’s company involved in advertising and public relations has produced movies like Corporate, Pyar Mein Twist, Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, Traffic Signal, MP3 and Dor.
Aqeel, who was held on Sunday, for carrying 0.06 gram of ecstasy in his bag, continues to be in police custody on Thursday.
Aqeel was in Dubai to play at a discotheque for a radio program, but his arrest prevented him from performing before his many local fans here.
However, Aqeel’s wife Farah Khan claimed that he did not use drugs and alleged that somebody having ill will against the star had planted the contraband in his bag.
Dubai police authorities say they had prior information from Mumbai that Aqeel was carrying the contraband. Therefore, Aqeel was subjected to a body search when he landed at the airport.
Of late, many cases of Indian personalities in the drug racket have been reported. This rising trend needs to be curbed. More strict legislations have to be brought in to reign in the trend.
